HANOVER, N.H. – No. 39 Dartmouth men's tennis came back from a dropped doubles point to defeat Yale, 4-1, at the Thompson Outdoor Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Big Green improved to 14-6 and 3-1 in Ivy League play, while the Bulldogs dipped to 11-11 and 0-5.
Â
"We did a good job bouncing back after losing the doubles point," head coach
Chris Drake said. "Yale played well today and really pushed us. We'll have a good week of practice to get ready for next weekend's matches."
Â
Seventh-ranked juniors
Charlie Broom and
David Horneffer got things started with their 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Yale's Nathan Brown and Dylan King were victorious on court two. Play at the No. 3 position was close, but the Bulldogs won that to claim the first point.
Â
That proved to be the only point Yale would get, as Dartmouth went on to win on four straight singles courts to clinch. Sophomore
Dan Martin tied the score with his 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Ryan Cheng on court two, while Horneffer, freshman
Sid Chari and sophomore
John Speicher added wins of their own to walk away with the victory.
Â
Next weekend, Dartmouth will play two tough, important matches against Columbia and Cornell, both of which have perfect 4-0 Ivy records.
