HANOVER, N.H. – In a battle of the ranked teams, No. 16 Columbia came out on top with a 7-0 victory over No. 40 Dartmouth at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday.
Â
The Big Green are now 14-7 overall and 3-2 in Ivy League play, while the Lions improved to 15-3 and 5-0.
Â
Columbia wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles positions gave the Lions a slight lead heading into singles. Playing at the top spot, 19th-ranked juniors
Charlie Broom and
David Horneffer were narrowly trailing No. 33 William Matheson and Jack Lin, 5-4, when the doubles point was clinched.
Â
The Lions won on all six singles matches, though a number of matches were very close. On court one, No. 60 Broom fought hard, but fell to No. 32 Victor Pham in three sets, while
Dan Martin dropped his first set to Lin, 7-5, before taking the second, 6-1. It was close, but the Big Green sophomore dropped the super breaker.
Â
Dartmouth will face Cornell at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
