ITHACA, N.Y. - The Dartmouth Equestrian team traveled to Cornell for the Ivy Championship Show this past weekend at the Oxley Equestrian Center. Six of the eight conference schools competed, and after a very close competition, the Big Green finished in second place, claiming the reserve championship title with Cornell finishing first.
Dartmouth riders gave especially strong performances at the show in individual and championship classes. The top-two riders in each level qualify for the overall championship class. Over fences, the championship placing depends on the original score over fences, and on the flat, riders compete in an additional class.
The morning started off with a strong start with captain
Olivia Champ winning her Open Fences class with a 79% score, the highest fences score of the day. Freshman
Claire Azar also had an excellent ride and placed first in her section of Open Fences with a winning score of 78%. Azar also won her Open Flat class. With a first-place finish in Open Fences and Open Flat, Azar was the High Point Rider at Ivies.
Juniors
Sophie Lenihan and
Lilly Higgins, both had successful rides in their respective Open Flat classes, both getting second place. Champ and Azar placed first and third, respectively, in the Open Fences championship. Azar, Lenihan and Higgins competed in the Open Flat championship class and placed second, third and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore
Nancy Curtis and freshman
Tori Bergstein also had good trips in Novice Fences placing second and third place, respectively. Bergstein later won her Novice Flat class and along with
Georgina Davis, who paced second in Novice Flat, they both competed in the Novice Flat championship class. Bergstein placed third and Davis sixth.
Dartmouth had a full sweep in the Walk Trot Canter and Walk Trot divisions.
Alexa Tucker and
Sophia Arana won their respective classes of Walk Trot Canter.
Sophie Kylander placed second. Tucker, Arana and Kylander had the chance to compete in the championship class, where Tucker placed fifth and Kylander sixth. Dartmouth also had a great representation in the Walk Trot division with
