HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's rugby senior
Kat Ramage and freshman
Emily Henrich were two of the five finalists for the MA Sorensen Award.
Given annually to the top women's college player in the country, the MA Sorensen Award is sponsored by the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle and has been presented each of the last three years. The award is named for MaryAnn Sorensen, a trailblazing prop for William & Mary and then for the USA. She was a huge part of the USA's 1991 Women's Rugby World Cup win, and has continued to excel as a player, coach and doctor.
During her senior fall, Ramage was tied for fourth on the team in points (30) and second in conversions (10). Her best performance came in the 40-22 win over No. 1 Quinnipiac (Sept. 8), where she had a season-high 10 points from five good kicks. In March, Ramage was named a NIRA All-American for the third consecutive season.
Henrich concluded her freshman fall first in tries (11), second in points (73) and third in conversions (9). She had a career-high 27 points in the 98-7 victory over Brown (Sept. 15) following three tries and six conversions. The rookie scored the last try in the 19-14 win against Harvard in the NIRA National Championship game. She was also one of 34 players named to the Women's National Team roster ahead of the November Internationals 2018. Henrich was tabbed to the NIRA All-American team.
The winner of the award will be announced in a few weeks after another round of voting. The winner will then receive the award on June 8 at a gala event at the Washington Athletic Club.
