Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Chris Williford, Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Helm, Sailing
The Dartmouth sailing team capped off its most successful season in over a decade and senior Christopher Williford was in the center of it all. Williford and Rebecca McElvain helped the team finish third at the NEISA Coed Championship. After the racing, Williford was honored with the Sportsman of the Year award and was a finalist for the Sailor of the Year.Â
Brooke Plonka, Fr., Marilla, N.Y. , P, SoftballPitching was essential for the Big Green in their series win at Brown and Brooke Plonka stood out from the pack. The freshman struck out nine batters over 8.1 innings and did not allow run while holding opposing hitters to a .038 average. Plonka earned a save in both victories for the Big Green.
