WACO, Texas – No. 39 Dartmouth men's tennis saw its season come to an end in the NCAA First Round, falling to No. 20 Michigan by a score of 4-2 at the Hurd Tennis Center on Baylor's campus.
Â
The Big Green wrapped up the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 15-9, while the Wolverines advanced to the next round with an 18-8 mark.
Â
"This was a good season overall," head coach
Chris Drake said. "We just came up a bit short. I give credit to Michigan. They were more consistent with their intensity from point to point. There are a few areas that we need to improve on as a team if we want to be good enough to advance in this tournament. I know we will be determined to improve and come back stronger next year."
Â
In doubles, a 6-3 win by 20th-ranked juniors
Charlie Broom and
David Horneffer at the No. 1 position started the match off well for Dartmouth, while a 6-4 victory by sophomores
Dan Martin and
John Speicher on court three gave the Green a lead heading into singles.
Â
A Michigan win at No. 3 singles tied things up, but freshman
Sid Chari's 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Connor Johnston on court four put Dartmouth ahead again. The Wolverines went on to win the next three matches to clinch the win, though play on courts two and six was very close and had to go to a third set to decide a winner.
