GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Dartmouth lightweight rowing team competed in two events on day one of the IRA National Championship in Gold River, Calif.

Racing for the Big Green was the Varsity 4+ and the Varsity 4-. Dartmouth's 4- won its heat and advanced to the Grand Final, while the 4+ advanced to the Petite Final.

Dartmouth's Varsity 4- had a strong day and won its heat with a time of 6:12.047 to advance to the Grand Final on Sunday. That time placed the Big Green ahead of Harvard (6:15.119), Princeton (6:17.690), Cornell (6:17.964) and Yale (6:26.510). Also moving on to the Grand Final is Navy, Harvard, Penn, Mercyhurst and Princeton.

The Big Green's Varsity 4+ finished its heat in fifth with a time of 6:52.206 and will race against Harvard and Yale Sunday morning in the Petite Final.

The next round of racing will take on Sunday. The 4- Grand Final will begin at 8:18 a.m., while the 4+ Petite Final gets underway at 8:50 a.m.
