CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Four members of the Dartmouth women's golf team were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars Team, as announced by the organization this week.
A total of 1,097 women's collegiate golfers from all three divisions were recognized with this prestigious honor. Among those names were senior
Catharine Roddy, sophomores
Moon Cheong and
Julianne Strauch, and freshman
Kaitlyn Lees. Roddy received the honor for the fourth consecutive year, while Strauch is a repeat winner as well.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with the minimum cumulative grade point average being 3.50 for inclusion.
Roddy, Cheong and Lees all competed in the Ivy League Championship in April, helping Dartmouth post its best-ever finish in second place, just six strokes behind the champion, Harvard.
Lees earned a spot on the All-Ivy League First Team by virtue of her third-place finish on the individual leaderboard. She also boasted the lowest stroke average for the Big Green as a rookie (76.30) over 20 rounds of golf. She burst on the collegiate scene with a top-10 finish in her first tournament (ninth of 81) on the home course, and finished the year playing some of her most consistent golf with a 74-74-73—221 (+6) at the league championship.
Roddy, a two-time All-Ivy performer, wrapped up her fine career with a 77.82 stroke average, third on the team, though it would have been lower had she not played through an illness in a fall tournament. Her top finish in her senior year came at the Brown Invitational in the fall when she tied for 10th out of 70 golfers.
Cheong missed out on All-Ivy League honors by a single stroke as she ranked second on the squad with a 77.05 stroke average. Her best golf came in the spring, starting with her tie for seventh out of 45 at the FAU Winter Warmup and concluding with her 14-over 230 to tie for 13th at the league championship.
Strauch dropped her stroke average by more than a full stroke from her rookie campaign with an even 79 over seven rounds, including a solid 8-over 152 to tie for 25th out of 86 in the Dartmouth Invitational to start the fall.
