The Big Green secured a 1-0 victory over their in-state rival

HANOVER, N.H. – A late goal by Mollie McGorisk in the 88th minute gave Dartmouth a 1-0 win and put an exclamation point on a hard fought battle against New Hampshire, Thursday night on Burnham Field.

The Big Green improved to 4-1-0 on the season and increased their lofty all-time series lead to 27-6-2 over their in-state rival. The Wildcats fell below .500 with a 3-4-0 record. Dartmouth outshot UNH 16-8 and 7-2 on goal with a 5-2 lead in corner kicks. Mariel Gordon finished with two saves for her third shutout of the season.

"I am very pleased with the way we played tonight," said head coach Ron Rainey. "UNH came out prepared and gave us a battle. I really liked the way we played patiently in the second half. Great goal by Mollie, sometimes that's all it takes to break the game open and come out with a positive result."

Like they have been doing all year, Dartmouth was aggressive from the opening whistle with three shots in the first nine minutes. UNH came to play as well, striking back with three shots, testing Gordon for the first time in the 13th minute. As time went on in the half, both teams played mostly in the middle of the field. Izzy Glennon had a good look in the 24th minute but could not convert.

Dartmouth ramped up their intensity level in the second stanza, firing away nine shots compared to just two for UNH in the half. The Big Green had many scoring opportunities, most notably, a header off the post by McGorisk in the 63rd minute.

The 16th and final shot of the game was the one that counted. In the 88th minute, Allie Winstanley took the ball up the far side of the field and crossed it to McGorisk who nailed a right-footed one timer past the diving UNH keeper to seal the deal.

Dartmouth makes a short road trip next when they travel south on Sunday to take on Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
