The Big Green notched their fourth shutout of the season
HAMDEN, Conn. – Two second-half goals carried Dartmouth women's soccer to its third straight win Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac, 2-0. Izzy Glennon scored the first Big Green goal in the 56th minute and Allie Winstanley extended the advantage in the 74th minute.
Dartmouth (5-1-0) continues its strong play in the early portion of the season. The Big Green outshot Quinnipiac (4-3-0) 10-7 and 6-3 on goal. Mariel Gordon secured her fourth shutout of the year with three saves in the contest.
"We grinded out a win today," said head coach Ron Rainey. "Really proud of how we went on the road and played an organized defensive team and stayed composed both offensively and defensively. We took chances today and made them count when we got them. It was a great win for the team."
Datmouth's defense was on display early. Quinnipiac fired away two shots in the fourth minute that were both blocked by the Big Green back line. Both teams battled for the remainder of the half as the Big Green had three shots compared to one for the Bobcats to close the first 45 minutes.
The second half was where the Big Green offense came alive. In the 56th minute, Zoe Boocock sent a free kick to Glennon who punched in her second goal of the season. It was the team leading fourth assist for Boocock to put Dartmouth on top, 1-0.
The Big Green continued to put pressure on the Bobcats. Tracey Mills sent a shot that was saved in the 73rd minute. In the very next minute, Winstanley found the back of the net to cap off the strong afternoon.
Dartmouth is back at Burham Field on Thursday night at 7 p.m. for a meeting with Rhode Island.
