The Big Green win their fourth straight game
HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's soccer scored a goal in each half to race past Rhode Island, 2-0, Thursday night at Burnham Field. Izzy Glennon scored in the 26th minute and Allie Winstanley put the game away in the 55th minute.
The Big Green (6-1-0) completed their fourth straight clean sheet and fifth total of the season. The Rams (3-3-2) gave Dartmouth all it could handle, but the Big Green defense and Mariel Gordon were there each time to make the stop.
Dartmouth is off to its best start since 2015 when the team began the year 6-1-1. The Big Green also match last season with a stretch of four consecutive shutouts.
"It was a great win for the team today," said head coach Ron Rainey. "But we have some things to work on. I would like to see us be more technical in the attacking third. On the positive side, we showed great grit and determination to finish with the clean sheet."
The Big Green had three corner kicks and two shots in the first 23 minutes of the match. Dartmouth found the back of the net in the 26th minute. Mollie McGorisk kicked it off a URI defender and the ball went straight up and fell to the feet of Glennon who pushed it past the keeper to make the score 1-0.
Winstanley struck early in the second half. In the 55th minute, the freshman received a pass from Alyssa Neuberger and ripped a long shot from outside the 18-yard box that banged off the top-left post and in to give Dartmouth a comfortable lead and eventually the win.
Dartmouth plays its final non-conference match on Sunday before Ivy League play starts when it travels to Sacred Heart for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
