HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth freshman forward
Mark Gallant was tabbed as the ECAC Hockey Men's Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Â
Gallant tied for the league lead in scoring last week with four points on two goals and two assists.
Â
The Concord, Massachusetts, native scored a power-play goal Friday in Dartmouth's 2-2 tie at Vermont, but had a career game the following evening at home against Boston University. Against the Terriers, Gallant started the Big Green's comeback bid after falling behind 3-0 in the opening frame with the team's first goal of the night, a power-play tally for the second night in a row.
Â
Gallant would add a pair of assists as well, including setting up
Drew O'Connor's game-winner midway through the second period.
Â
It was the first multi-point game for Gallant as he finished with three points, tying him for the top single-game mark by a Dartmouth player this season.
Â
This is the team's fifth weekly award from the conference office, joining O'Connor (Player of the Week, twice),
Sam Hesler (Player of the Week) and
Adrian Clark (Goaltender of the Week) to do so in 2019-20. Gallant is the first Dartmouth rookie to receive the top weekly honor this season after O'Connor did so a league-best three times in 2018-19.
Â
Gallant and his teammates host Clarkson and St. Lawrence this Friday and Saturday night with both games scheduled for 7 p.m. puck drops at Thompson Arena. Saturday's game against the Saints will see the return of Lee Stempniak '05, Ben Lovejoy '06 and Tanner Glass '07 to Thompson for an on-ice recognition in appreciation of their recently concluded NHL careers. The trio will also sign autographs afterward on the concourse. Free commemorative posters will be distributed and the first 500 fans through the doors will receive commemorative t-shirts provided by The Richards Group.
