HAMILTON, N.Y. – Despite a goal and an assist from both
Drew O'Connor and
Cam Strong, the No. 20 Dartmouth men's hockey team played to a 3-3 tie Saturday at Colgate.
Â
The Big Green (10-6-4, 7-4-2 ECAC Hockey) had three different one-goal leads in the game, but each time the Raiders (8-10-6, 6-3-3 ECAC Hockey) managed to pull even with no team finding the back of the net for a fourth time in 65 minutes of action.
Â
It was the sixth overtime game of the season for Dartmouth, who now boasts a 1-1-4 mark in the extra frame.
Â
For the second straight night, it was Strong who got the Green on the board first, netting his fourth of the year at 10:08 for the only marker of the opening period. Freshman defenseman
Brock Paul picked up his first career point with an assist on the play, while
Erik Urbank had the other.
Â
Paul McAvoy netted his first of two goals on the night for the home team just 20 seconds into the middle stanza. Junior
Quin Foreman answered that to give the visitors a 2-1 lead with a power-play tally at 4:28 of the frame, knocking in a loose puck after solid passing play down low from O'Connor and
Will Graber.
Â
The lead was short-lived as McAvoy tied it just over two minutes later.
Â
O'Connor once again moved back into a first-place tie in ECAC Hockey with his 12th goal of the season, deflecting in a redirected puck with the shaft of his stick after Strong had lifted it into the air on
Brendan Demler's point shot.
Â
But just three minutes and change later, Ben Sharf pulled the Raiders even for the third and final time with the last goal of the game.
Â
Adrian Clark needed to make 26 saves in the game to earn the tie, while Colgate's Andrew Farrier stopped 34 at the other end of the ice.
Â
Dartmouth remains on the road in New York next weekend for another pair of ECAC Hockey games at Rensselaer and Union. Both are set for 7 p.m. puck drops and can be heard on DartmouthSports.com with Rob Kennedy providing the radio play-by-play.
