PRINCETON, N.J. —
Trevon Ary-Turner returned to the court after a two-game absence to lead Dartmouth with 11 points off the bench, but Princeton broke open a close game at the half by doubling up the Big Green over the final 20 minutes at Jadwin Gym in a 66-44 victory. The Tigers (8-8, 3-0 Ivy) got a balanced scoring attack to remain perfect in league play, while Dartmouth (7-11, 0-3 Ivy) was left still searching for its first conference win of the season.
The Big Green finished the game shooting just 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor due to hitting just seven field goals in the second half. After drilling 3-of-5 from deep in the first 20 minutes, Dartmouth missed all seven the rest of the way. The Green also did not attempt a free throw until barely three minutes remained, going 3-of-4 for the night.
Princeton, on the other hand, blistered the nets at a 62.5 percent clip (15-of-24) after the break and finished the night hitting 28-of-53 (.528) overall and 7-of-18 (.389) from long distance. Richmond Aririguzoh led the Tigers with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, eight rebounds and three assists, while Ryan Schwieger added 12 points.
After a first half with neither side leading by more than seven points at any point, Princeton quickly established itself in the paint after the intermission, going 9-of-15 from the floor to boost its advantage from five to 13, 50-37, midway through the stanza. Of those 15 shots, 14 were layup attempts and the other a 15-footer that Jaelin Llewellyn sank.
Meanwhile, Dartmouth was struggling to get its offense going, turning the ball over as many times in the first four minutes of the second half (four) as it did the entire first half. But junior
Chris Knight, who finished with 10 points, had a pair of buckets in that span, and Ary-Turner added two more in an effort to keep the game from getting away from the Big Green.
But Llewellyn popped a trifecta, and Ethan Wright added another to help Princeton open up a 19-point bulge, 58-39, with 6:45 to play from which Dartmouth could not recover.
The game began well for the Big Green as they hit seven of their first 12 shots with a pair of treys. When senior
Ian Sistare hit a 3-pointer six minutes in, Dartmouth owned a 12-7 lead, and buckets by sophomore
Garrison Wade and Ary-Turner kept the Green in the lead at 16-14.
A
James Foye layup with seven minutes left in the half put Dartmouth back on top, 20-19, before Princeton rattled off eight straight points, keyed by a Jose Morales triple. The Tigers never led by fewer than four the rest of the half and went up by double digits for good on a Schwieger layup with 14:23 to play.
Ary-Turner was an efficient 5-of-7 from the floor in scoring his 11 points over 20 minutes on the floor. Junior
Aaryn Rai led Dartmouth with six rebounds, while Princeton held a 30-27 advantage on the glass.
The Big Green will attempt to break their six-game skid and 11-game losing streak in league play tomorrow night at Penn (9-7, 1-2 Ivy) when they tipoff against the Quakers at 6 p.m., streamed live on ESPN+.
Notes: The two teams combined for just seven offensive rebounds — four by Dartmouth — and three second-chance points, all by Princeton … the Big Green have dropped their last 11 games at Jadwin Gym and are just 3-48 in the venue … Princeton has won 19 of the last 21 meetings.
