BOCA RATON, Fla. — Dartmouth freshman
Angela Zhang finished the third round of the FAU Winter Warmup with a one-under 71 to bring her final tally to even par, claiming third place in the 81-player field and becoming the first Big Green women's golfer ever to finish a three-round tournament at even par. Her performance carried Dartmouth to a 5-over 293 — its best-ever round in relation to par — and allowed the Green to finish fourth among the 14 teams with a 31-over 895, another program record.
On a beautiful day at the Osprey Point Golf Club, Zhang started the day off right with a birdie on her starting hole, the par-4 fourth. She added birdies on six and eight as well while taking a bogey on seven to move into a tie for the lead. The rest of her round featured 10 pars, a birdie and a pair of bogeys as she finished her three rounds with a 73-72-71—216 (E), two strokes behind one of her playing partners today, Yale's Amy Gianchandani. She took home medalist honors thanks to closing with birdies on two of her final four holes, beating out Seton Hall's Mia Kness by a single stroke.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Lees also put together a solid round at even par on the 6,017-yard, par-72 course. Although she found herself 3-over after her first nine, she close strong with six pars and three birdies to finish up in a tie for 12th overall with a 77-73-72—222 (+6).
Both sophomore
Kristen Chen and freshman
Samantha Yao wrapped up the final round with a 75 (+3). Chen was sitting at 1-under through 14 holes thanks to a pair of birdies, but double bogeys on the two of her final four holes dropped her back into a tie for 35th with a 79-75-75—229 (+13). While Chen had 13 pars, Yao topped that with 14 to go with a birdie, two bogeys and a double for her 75 and tie for 30th at 77-76-75—228 (+12).
Senior
Maddie Nelson was the fifth golfer for the Big Green, and she carded an 8-over 80 for the third straight round, tying for 62nd.
Arkansas State took the team title with a big surge today, carding a 4-under 284 to make up 10 strokes on the leader entering the day, Seton Hall, who was 9-over on the day. Yale also was 4-under today to surpass the Big Green into third at 25-over par, while Dartmouth bested the host, Florida Atlantic, by two strokes.
The women will have some time off before hitting the links again. Next up for the Big Green is the Bama Beach Bash at Golf Shores Golf Club co-hosted by South Alabama and UAB on March 20-22.
