TROY, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team ended its last road game of the season with a 4-1 defeat of Rensselaer at the Houston Field House.
The last time the Big Green swept a road weekend was Feb. 13-14, 2015, against Colgate (5-2) and Cornell (3-2).
Freshmen
CC Bowlby and
Catherine Trevors both had two points; Bowlby netted two goals, while Trevors had one of each.
Currie Putrah,
Megan Cornell,
Sara McClanahan,
Emily McLaughlin,
Sydney Hill and
Lotti Odnoga all ended up with a point each. In net, junior
Kayla Wormsbecher had her second 34-save performance in a row to have her first two-win weekend in her career.
"I am so excited for our girls," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "They have showed tremendous resiliency over the past few weeks and it's so great to see them be able to reap the benefits from all the hard work. Kayla played another great game for us and I thought we stuck with the game plan from start to finish."
The teams skated through the first period scoreless and with the home team leading in shots. Dartmouth (7-17-3, 4-13-3) turned it around in the second, scoring twice in three and a half minutes. Putrah opened scoring at 8:52 with a nice backhanded shot, while Bowlby got one of her own at 12:23 to make it a 2-0 game. Hill, who had the second assist on the first goal, tried her hand at scoring late in the second but RPI (0-31-1, 0-20-0) netminder Amanda Rampado made the save.
Bowlby was back for more at 5:35 of the third, this time scoring with the extra player. The Engineers spoiled the shut out with a power-play tally of their own two minutes later to get back within two. Forty seconds after RPI pulled its goalie in favor of the extra skater, Trevors scored an empty netter to seal the deal.
The Green had a 38-35 shot advantage. Both teams went 1-for-4 on the power play.
Just two more games remain on the schedule for the 2019-20 season. Dartmouth will host St. Lawrence and Clarkson next weekend and will recognize their four seniors after the game against the Golden Knights on Saturday.
