HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Dartmouth men's golf team finished the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 26-over 314 to move ahead of Cornell and place 17th overall with a final three-round score of 936 (+72).
Charles Petrie provided the low round of the day for the Big Green in tough conditions — 4-over 76 — as well as the best overall score with a 14-over 230.
Augusta University took home the team title, besting Davidson College by three strokes with an 878 (+14), though two Wildcat golfers tied for medalist honors with Alex Ross and Brian Garrett the only two golfers in the 89-player field to break par on the 6,913-yard, par-72 Wexford Plantation Golf Course over the three rounds (2-under 214).
Petrie began the day a little shaky, sitting at 4-over in the round after six holes. But the sophomore settled in to play even par over the last dozen, thanks to birdies on a pair of par-4 holes to card his 76. He finished his three rounds with 35 pars to his credit, among the top 12 in the field, and tied for 53rd overall.
Senior
Will Bednarz, who had the low Dartmouth score in the second round with a 75, followed Petrie with a 6-over 78 on Tuesday, despite not sinking one birdie. Junior captain
Jason Liu recorded two birdies in his round of 80 (+8), while freshman
Eli Thrasher had one in matching Liu's 80 on the day. The latter tied Bednarz for 66th place with an 18-over 234, while Liu closed out in 80th with a 240. Sophomore
Mark Turner was the other Big Green golfer on the course, tying for 86th overall with a 249.
Dartmouth will be back in action on March 14-15 at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Florida.
