Junior Claire Thomas earned 87 points to help the Big Green ski teams to a second place finish at the Colby Carnival this past weekend. Meanwhile on the indoor tennis courts at Boss Tennis center in Hanover, classmate Peter Conklin went 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles in a weekend sweep for the men's tennis team over Rice, Boston University and Bryant.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Claire Thomas, Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Alpine Skiing
Claire Thomas, a junior from Salt Lake City Utah, put together a pair of terrific races at the Colby Carnival last week, producing 87 points to help the Big Green finish second as a team. First, she ripped her way through the giant slalom course to win the event — her second career carnival victory — in 2:02.38 as Dartmouth won the event by beating out second-place Vermont, 136-116. The following day, she was one of Dartmouth's scorers by placing sixth in 1:50.90 as the Big Green once again finished atop the team standings by a 120-97 margin ahead of New Hampshire.
Peter Conklin, Fr., Fairfield, Conn., Men's Tennis
In Dartmouth's wins over Rice (7-0), Boston University (6-1) and Bryant (6-1) at home this weekend, Peter Conklin went 3-0 in doubles action and 2-0 in singles matches.
Since returning to the court at the beginning of January, Dartmouth has gone 6-0 in dual matches. Conklin is undefeated in singles, 4-1 in doubles with a victory over a ranked doubles team from Alabama under his belt, and clinched the win for Dartmouth in the 4-3 defeat of the Tide.
