HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners for men's basketball this afternoon, and Dartmouth forward
Chris Knight was chosen as the Player of the Week for his performance in the Big Green's weekend sweep of Cornell and Columbia. This is the second time in the last three weeks he has earned the honor.
The junior from Madison, Wisconsin, continued his dominant play in February, leading the Big Green to a weekend sweep on the road for the first time in five years. On Friday, Knight tallied 17 points on 6-of-11 from the floor while matching a career high with 13 rebounds for a double-double, plus dished out five assists and blocked a shot in the 82-70 triumph over the Big Red. He was even more efficient in New York City, hitting all seven of his field goal attempts in tallying a team-high 19 points — 16 coming in the second half — to go with 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double in the last five games, as well as six more helpers with a block and a steal in the 76-57 victory over the Lions.
For the two games, Knight averaged a double-double (18.0 points, 11.5 rebounds) along with 5.5 assists and 1.0 blocks while shooting 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the floor and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) at the foul line. He raised his season averages to 14.6 points (eighth in the Ivy League) and 6.4 rebounds (seventh) per game with a field goal percentage of 53.8 (second).
In the month of February, spanning nine games, Knight put up averages of 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting a robust 63.9 percent on field goals as Dartmouth posted a 5-4 record. For his career, he has 1,107 points, which ranks 21st on the Big Green all-time list.
Dartmouth (12-15, 5-7 Ivy) wraps up the regular season this weekend at home and still has an outside chance of qualifying for the Ivy League Tournament by finishing fourth. The Big Green would need to beat both league-leading Yale (22-6, 10-2 Ivy) on Friday night and Brown (13-12, 6-6 Ivy) while Penn (14-11, 6-6 Ivy) would need to lose to both Columbia and Cornell — the bottom two teams in the standings — on its home court at the Palestra. Brown would also need to lose to Harvard, or should it beat the Crimson, Yale would need to beat Harvard on Saturday.
The game against the Bulldogs on Friday night tips off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Bob Lipman and Dave Faucher calling the action. A free audio stream will be available as well featuring Brett Franklin on the call through the official website of Big Green athletics, DartmouthSports.com.
