HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's basketball team will wear black socks during its game against the Ivy League leaders, the Yale Bulldogs, on Friday night, March 6, at Leede Arena for Black Sock Awareness Night. Black socks, or compression stockings specifically, are used to promote blood flow for people with a vascular condition known as May Thurner Syndrome, a blood-clotting disorder.
The Black Sock Foundation was started by Jeremiah Swett, the brother of Big Green junior
Ben Swett, who suffers from the disorder. Diagnosed in 2018 at the age of 16, Jeremiah underwent four operations in an eight-day span to remove a clot in his leg. He now wears a black compression stocking on his left leg at all times, which helps to promote blood flow.
Jeremiah wants to spread awareness of May Thurner Syndrome and the problem of pediatric blood clotting disorders, and help fund efforts to manage these life altering conditions. To learn more about the Black Sock Foundation, please visit
