May 30, 2014: Women's Sailing Claims Second Consecutive National Championship
Six years ago, the Dartmouth women's sailing team claimed its second consecutive national championship.
The Big Green finished atop the 18-boat fleet with 185 points, edging second-place Yale (190) by five points. It was the fourth title for the women's team, who also won in 2013, 2000, 1992, and the fifth overall for Dartmouth sailing as the coed squad took home the crown in 1992.
Hosted by Navy, the 18 best teams in the country raced off the coast Annapolis Harbor. Dartmouth's 'A' Division of junior Deirdre Lambert '15 and senior Avery Plough '14 dominated with a group-best 60 points, a total which was 41 points better than second-place Yale.
The 'B' Division boat of senior Kelsey Wheeler '14 and sophomore Lizzie Guynn '16 tallied 125 points, the third most in the heat.
