HANOVER, N.H. – This past weekend, the Dartmouth sailing team competed in two regattas, sailing for both the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Open and Women's Fleet Race Championships.
The open race, the Coast Guard Alumni Bowl, was held at Brown as the Big Green sailed to a 13th overall finish. The women's race was hosted at Coast Guard, as teams competed for the Reed Trophy. Dartmouth finished 10th overall.
At Brown, the open team posted 229 total points for 13th overall, finishing with 130 A Division points and 99 B Division points.
The A Division posted two top ten finishes over the ten races, one of which was in the top five. They finished fifth in their third race and seventh in their sixth race.
The B Division finished half their races in top ten finishing positions, including earning one win. In their second race, they sailed to an eight-place overall finishing position. They then finished back-to-back races in the top ten, posting fourth overall in their fourth race and earning the win in their fifth race. The B Division also added a ninth-place finish and a sixth-place finish to wrap racing.
At the women's championship, Dartmouth posted 96 A Division points and 98 B Division points, finishing with a combined 194, good for tenth overall.
The Big Green started strong, as the A Division earned top ten finishes in their first five races, while the B Division finished in the top ten in their first three races. The A Division's streak was capped with a first-place finishing position in the fifth race, as the Big Green sat in seventh at the time.
The A Division also added top ten finishing positions in their seventh (third overall) and eighth (second overall) races. The Big Green's A Division finished the day with seven top ten finishes across their 12 races, four of which were top five finishes.
The B Division earned two straight top ten finishes in their fifth and sixth races, winning the sixth race, and wrapped the day with three more. The Big Green finished with a top ten finishing position in 66% of their races, posting three top five finishes.
Dartmouth will now shift its focus to Nationals, as the Big Green continue their championship season with the Open Team Race National Championship hosted by Tulane from Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25.
The Big Green will then immediately sail in the Women's Team Race National Championship, also hosted by Tulane from Sunday, April 26 through Monday, April 27.
