Dartmouthsports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior … Loghan Thomas of the softball team.
Dartmouthsports.com: What have you been up to since returning home?
Loghan Thomas: I've spent most of my time focusing on my classes, one of which is hugely project-based and I've already put a lot of work into. Outside of that, I've just been trying to find ways to keep myself busy. I take a lot of walks around my neighborhood (maintaining social distancing of course), and have been trying out new ways to work out without access to a gym. I've been enjoying being home with my family again too, even if it isn't under ideal circumstances.
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
LT: Either the couches in the Thayer atrium, or (and this isn't exactly
on campus but) a table in Starbucks. Thayer is really a beautiful building, and I got to know the people there so well over the past year. It was nice to do work there with my classmates and friends and catch up with how everyone was doing, whether it was commiserating over a problem set or just chatting about life. Starbucks was also really special to me because it was where one of my best friends and I had been going to hang out or do work since Freshman Fall. The weirdest thing about doing spring term remotely is having to text her about the paper I'm writing instead of just catching her attention across the table.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
LT: Tessa Grossman- Tessa is on her way to a career as a strength coach and I think that would be such a cool thing to do for the rest of my life.
DS: What has been your best on-field memory in your Dartmouth career?
LT: My sophomore year the team tied an NCAA record with 4 back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs off of Cornell. We made it on ESPN which was really cool. It was such a fun game, every time we got back to the dugout we would turn around to run right back out and celebrate again.
DS: What are your post-Dartmouth plans?
LT: I don't have a job locked down yet, but I want to do something with engineering in the athletics industry.
DS: What is your hidden talent or something that someone might not know about you?
LT: I spent the summer after my freshman year working in a food truck that served Mexican food, and now I get really irritated by poorly wrapped burritos.
DS: Do you have a nickname on your team? Who gave it to you and why?
LT: Not really, sometimes I get called Logh or Loghs but that's just a shortening of my name.
DS: What are you going to miss most about Dartmouth?
LT: I'm going to miss the incredible people that Dartmouth has introduced me to. From my teammates to the Thayer crowd and everyone in between, the Dartmouth community has shaped so much of the past four years of my life. I am unbelievably saddened by the fact that we don't get spring term or graduation this year to say goodbye to each other, but I am so thankful for the memories that I made with these people at this school. We will always be part of Dartmouth, even if our time on campus is over.
