Dartmouthsports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior … Micah Schroder of the softball team.
Dartmouthsports.com: What have you been up to since returning home
?
Micah Schroder: Since returning home I have just been doing online classes and studying for the GRE and working out 5-6 days a week with my teammate
Bryce West.
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
MS: My favorite place on campus is the practice football field right behind the softball field.
Tessa Grossman and I used to go out there to do homework in the spring before practices or doing extra work. It was always a nice spot to study, eat, and nap and it was quieter than the green. Plus, it's always a good thing to be a 30 second walk away from your field.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
MS: If I could swap places with a teammate for one day, I would swap places with
Brooke Plonka. Brooke is one of my all-time favorite people that I have met at Dartmouth. She and I have very similar goals but at the same time are so different. She is a servant leader and while being compassionate is also the type of teammate that will hold you accountable no matter what the circumstance. I have always admired her.
DS: What has been your best on-field memory in your Dartmouth career?
MS: My best on field memory was when
Taylor Ward,
Morgan Martinelli,
Schae Nelson, and I hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. Taylor and I had a running joke that whole season and her senior season to come, that every time one of us hit a home run the other would follow shortly after trying to "steal the spotlight". It was always fun as she and I were always in a healthy competition with each other. She is a teammate that pushes everyone around her to compete, she made the game fun!
DS: What are your post-Dartmouth plans?
MS: My post Dartmouth plans currently consist of me attending graduate school to get my master's in economics or business analytics and using my final year of eligibility to play softball.
DS: What is your hidden talent or something that someone might not know about you?
MS: My hidden talent is that I make most of my own clothes and I make clothes for my friends. It brings me a lot of joy. It is always fun to see one of your friends wearing jeans or a shirt you made from scratch or using old clothes and repurposing them.
DS: Do you have a nickname on your team? Who gave it to you and why?
MS: My nickname is Mike. One of our former assistant coaches,
Molly Fichtner, always called me Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. It eventually just turned into Mike and I just went with the flow.
DS: What are you going to miss most about Dartmouth?
MS: What I am going to miss most about Dartmouth is the people and the atmosphere. It's crazy to think that we go to one of the most competitive undergraduate schools in the country. Every day at Dartmouth I met someone new or was reminded about how talented my fellow classmates were. Whether it was going to a dance show, an acappella show, or other sporting events, the students here are talented in whatever they choose to do as a hobby and maintain rigorous academics. It was always cool to learn about them and learn from them.
