HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth volleyball picked up its first Ivy League win on Friday evening with a 3-0 sweep of Columbia (25-16, 25-17, 25-23).
Â
Taite Ryan had a double-double (14D, 10K), leading the team in both categories while also being first with 11 points.
Makenzie Arent led with 17 assists and three aces and
Piper Stevens was first with three block assists.
Â
"I thought the team came out following the game plan to a T in the first and second games," head coach
Gilad Doron said. "It was great to see how we were siding out in a high percentage. I thought we were sharing the ball among all hitters and it was a great team effort, both offensively and defensively. It's great to have a conference win and hopefully, as we get a little healthier, we can learn how to play better volleyball in the second half."

Dartmouth (9-6, 1-5) vs. Columbia (4-11, 1-5)
Things were very close at the start of the first set, but Dartmouth started to pull ahead after a 9-1 run from kills by
Bomi Ogunlari,
Emma Moffet and Ryan and some Lion errors (12-4). The next chunk of the set was neck and neck, with both teams winning eight points apiece, but Columbia was a little too far behind to make a dent (20-12). The Green won three of the last four points, ending on a Ryan kill (25-16).
Â
It was a similar story in the second: The teams were tied at 3-3 until a kill by
Ellie Blain, two aces by Arent and an error made it a 7-3 game. Columbia found a bit of momentum to get closer, but a 4-1 Dartmouth rally put some distance between them (16-10). The Lions ended up holding the Big Green at set point for three points, but a block by Stevens and
Francesca Meldrum gave another win to Dartmouth (25-17).
Â
The Lions had a good run in the early parts of the third, going on a 5
-2 streak to take their first lead of the match (7-8). There were eight ties after that until Columbia turned its one-point lead into three (15-18). The Lions maintained a three-point edge until a 7-2 Big Green run thanks to kills by Ryan,
Karen Murphy and Blain gave Dartmouth the go ahead (24-22). Columbia got one more kill before Blain's kill wrapped up the match (25-23).
Â
The Big Green will be back at Leede Arena on Saturday when they face Cornell.
