Samantha Yao and sophomore
Katherine Sung both carded a 1-under 71 in the second and final round of the SHU Fall Classic on Monday, lowest among the 69 golfers, to lead the Dartmouth women's golf team to a third-place finish. The Big Green shot an even 300 (+12) as a team today, second only to the team champion, Boston University, which produced a 307-296—603 (+27) to beat out the 11-team field.
Dartmouth ended up 15 strokes off the pace (318-300—618, +42) on the 5,971-yard, par-72 course at Great River Golf Club. Host Sacred Heart edged out the Big Green for second by just six strokes with a 310-302—618 (+36).
Sung took third overall thanks to her tour under par today, carding a 76-71—147 (+3), just two strokes behind medalist Kailee Welch of Sacred Heart. Yao, meanwhile, climbed seven places in the individual standings to tie for fifth at 6-over (79-71—150).
Sophomore
Penelope Tir shaved seven strokes off her first-round score to jump 17 places in the standings into a tie for 16th at 15-over par (83-76—159), and freshman
Claire Xu rounded out the team scores with an 80-82—162 (+18), tying her for 28th place.
This tournament concludes the fall season for the women, who will return in February looking to compete for the Ivy League title.
