HANOVER, N.H. – Xander Centenari '13, the John Kenfield and
Chuck Kinyon Head Coach of Men's Tennis, announced the 2020-21 team awards on Monday.
Â
"I am really proud of the way this group has been able to compete and improve all year long," Centenari said. "Congrats to our award winners. These guys have stepped up and demonstrated what it means to be a Dartmouth men's tennis player in what has been a very difficult year."
Â
Logan Chang won both the Occum Bowl and a share of the Hard Hat Commitment Award with
Pierce Widdecombe. The Occum Bowl is awarded to the player who made the greatest improvement during the year and demonstrated increasing maturity in attitude toward the game. The Hard Hat Commitment Award is given to the player(s) who exemplifies the team's values of self-motivation, being team-motivated, having a positive attitude and having strength of character.
Â
Chang opened his collegiate career in Dartmouth's first and only match of the season – a win over Williams – pairing up with
Peter Conklin to win their doubles match at the top spot before winning his singles match at the No. 6 position. Widdecombe did not see any action during the Big Green's shortened campaign.
Â
Conklin was the winner of the Clarence J. Davies Award and the Grit Grind Toughness Award. The Davies Award is given to the player who displayed the qualities of sportsmanship, integrity and team spirit that reflects most favorably on themselves and Dartmouth. The Grit Award is awarded to the athlete who embodies the team's values of toughness, resilience, composure, and confidence. Against the Ephs, Conklin won his doubles match and narrowly fell in his singles match at the No. 2 position.
