NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Darkness halted play at the 45th Macdonald Cup hosted by Yale on Friday with several teams still needing to play two final holes, but the Dartmouth men's golf team will be in the thick of things when play continues on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. The Big Green find themselves tied for eighth at 24-over as a team with
Jason Liu leading the way in a tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard at even par.
The host Bulldogs were able to complete the full 36 holes and have a four-stroke lead with a 4-under 556 over Michigan, despite the Wolverines having the top three players at a combined 13-under par, though one of that trio is playing as an individual. Yale might have an even larger lead if one of its low scorer weren't also playing as an individual as Blake Brantley is tied for fourth with teammate Teddy Zinser with a 138 (-2). Harvard sits in third, 12 strokes behind the Bulldogs in third at 8-over par.
Liu had to tough it out on the course after twisting his ankle on the first hole. But after getting taped up by the trainer, he managed to sink three birdies and finish out his first round with a 2-under 68 thanks to a trio of birdies. He added three more before play was suspended with two holes remaining.
Senior
Mark Turner was two-under at the turn during his first 18 thanks to three birdies of his own, but he stumbled a bit on the back nine — though he did sink one more birdie — before settling for a 3-over 73 to start his day. He added three more birdies to his ledger over the first 13 holes of the second round, but the remainder of his scores have not been entered, so he is showing at 2-over in his second round and 5-over on the day, tied for 25th.
