SONOMA, Calif. — The Dartmouth men's golf team closed out the opening day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Sonoma, California. The Big Green played two rounds and enter the final day of competition ranked eighth in a field of nine teams.
Harvard leads the field, shooting 10-under par (282-284-566), followed closely by host team Cal, which shot 9-under 576. Minnesota and San Jose State each finished the opening two rounds at 8-under par, sharing third place.
Freshman
Cameron Keith leads the Big Green through 36 holes, shooting even after the first day of action. Keith opened the day shooting 73 in the first round, but improved upon his performance on the first 18, shooting 1-under par in the final round. He enters Tuesday tied for 18th in a field of 60 student-athletes.
Alex Gu closed out the day with scores of 74-72-146 and sits tied for 29th heading into the third and final round. Gu was steady in the second round, improving on his score on the first 18 to close out the day strong.
Aaron Zhang recorded scores of 73-75-148, which ties him for 36th in the field after the opening two rounds.
Mark Turner finished one stroke behind Zhang, with scores of 76-73-149. Turner recorded 28 pars throughout the day, tied for the third-most in the field.
Eli Kimche rounded out Dartmouth's team play with shooting 6-over par over two rounds of play.
Justin Lee, who competed as an individual, also closed out the day at 150, which ties him with Kimche for 45th in the field.
Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan finished the first day of competition carding a 70-66-136 to lead the field. He was followed closely by Minnesota's Antoine Sale (67-70-137) and Harvard's Brian Ma (70-68-138) who round out the top three.
The Big Green return to Sonoma Golf Club for one final round at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational tomorrow. This will serve as Dartmouth's final round of the fall slate.
