HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's soccer team travels to Ithaca, New York for a crucial Ivy League contest against No. 25 Cornell. The Big Green look to keep pace in the conference standings with a win against a ranked foe on the road.
The Big Green last took the field last weekend against Columbia in a must-win conference contest. Senior
Eric Sachleben scored his first goal of the season in the 35th minute to hand the Lions their first Ivy League loss of the season by a score of 1-0. Dartmouth improved to 2-2 in Ancient Eight competition with the victory.
Dartmouth looks for its third-straight Ivy League victory this weekend and its first away from the confines of Burnham Field. Cornell serves as the Big Green's second ranked opponent of the season, as Dartmouth dropped a 3-0 decision to then-No. 10 Vermont on October 18.
The Big Green travel to Ithaca for the first time 2018, when Dartmouth secured its most recent win over the Big Red. Dartmouth looks to snap a two-match skid against Cornell and pick up its third Ivy league win of 2022.
KEY TO VICTORY: SCORE FIRST
Scoring first has been the key to success for the Big Green this season.
Dartmouth is 5-0-0 when scoring first so far in 2022. The Big Green hold wins over Niagara (1-0), Stonehill (6-0), Hartford (3-0), Yale (3-2) and Columbia (1-0), finding the back of the net first in each contest.
Four of Dartmouth's five wins this season have been clean sheets, including its most recent win over Columbia. Goalkeeper Costi Christodolou holds a .920 save percentage and a 0.41 goals against average in Dartmouth's wins.
IVY LEAGUE STANDINGS TIGHTEN DOWN THE STRETCH
Dartmouth sits in third place in the Ivy League heading into this weekend's match against Cornell. With a record of 2-2 in conference action, the Big Green look to build momentum following back-to-back conference wins over Yale and Columbia.
Cornell holds an Ivy League record of 3-1, with its only loss in Ancient Eight competition coming against first-place team Penn. A win for the Big Green would move them to a tie for second place in the Ivy League with the Big Red.
SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell enters Saturday's match as the No. 25 program in the country, as ranked by the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Big Red hold a record of 11-3-0 and an Ivy League mark of 3-1-0.
The Big Red secured a win in its last conference match against Princeton 3-1. Cornell picked up its eighth road win of the season to keep pace with the top of the Ivy League standings.
Cornell's lone Ivy league loss of the season came to Penn on October 15 at home by a score of 3-2. The Big Red have not had the same success at home as they have on the road, with a 3-2-0 record at Berman Field.
Brandon Morales leads the Big Red with seven goals and seven assists through 14 matches. He ranks third in the conference in goals and points (21) and is tied for second in assists (7).
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BIG RED
