PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Facing another participant in the upcoming Ivy League Tournament, the Dartmouth volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-21) to Brown in the final match of the regular season.
Â
Dartmouth enters the tournament with a record of 16-8 (8-6), while Brown, the defending Ivy League champion, carries a 14-9 (10-4) mark into the postseason.
Â
Brown set the tone with a 25-8 victory in the first set and although Dartmouth consistently gave the defending champions a greater challenge in each set, the Bears were able to pull out the three-set victory.
Â
Emma Sinclair, who had appeared in only one match this season prior to Saturday, posted a team and career-high seven kills.
Grace Wiczek added five kills at a .364 clip. Two Bears racked up double digit kills as Sophia Miller and Kayla Griebl combined for 23 to pace the Brown attack. Kate Danaher went for 37 assists, while Jessie Golden had 16 digs.
Â
Bomi Ogunlari had one block, tying the program's single-season record with 96.
Â
Brown raced to a 6-1 advantage early in the opening set and later enjoyed a five-point run to lead 13-4. A six-point run, including three straight kills up to set point, did in the Big Green and gave the hosts an early advantage.
Â
Dartmouth saw a much better start in the second set, leading 8-5 following a four-point run, but Brown responded by rattling off four points to reclaim the lead. Though Dartmouth battled back to force a couple ties later on, the hitting of Griebl was too much late in the set.
Â
The Big Green put up their strongest fight in the third set, despite trailing by as many as five early. Kills by
Bomi Ogunlari,
Grace Wiczek and
Taite Ryan, along with some Brown misfires, allowed Dartmouth to climb back for a 16-16 stalemate. Brown was able to close it out despite successful swings from
Natalie Grover,
Ellie Blain, and Sinclair. Elise Curtin's kill at match point was the final nail for Dartmouth.
Â
Following the loss, Dartmouth is the No. 4 seed in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament, which will be hosted by top-seeded Yale. The Big Green are set to face the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18. The winner of that match will face either Brown or Princeton in Saturday's final. All matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
