HANOVER, N.H. — Maddie Hawkins and
Aisling Sullivan earned New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association women's sailors of the week honors, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. The pair led the Big Green to a victory at the Victorian Urn Trophy regatta for the first time since 2012 over the weekend.
Sailing in the "A" division of the Urn Trophy event, Sullivan and Hawkins finished first in a field of 15 teams. The duo dominated the competition, finishing 24 points ahead of the second-place team from MIT.
"We are thrilled for Maddie and Aisling to be recognized as New England's women's sailors of the week," head coach
Justin Assad said. "They had a very strong performance and helped to lead our women to their first win at the Urn since 2012, capping a fantastic fall season."
Sullivan and Hawkins' performance, along with
Gray Hemans and
Caroline Oyster in the "B" division, secured a NEISA Fall Women's Championship for the Big Green at the Urn Trophy event. Dartmouth bested three of the top programs in the country, Brown, Harvard and Yale en route to victory.
The pair were consistent throughout the weekend finishing seven out of 15 races in first or second place. Hawkins and Sullivan outperformed their competitors throughout the competition to lead the Big Green to victory.
The Big Green closed out the fall season with four regatta wins in the final four weeks of competition. Dartmouth will resume the 2022-23 season in the spring for the championship portion of its schedule.
