HANOVER, N.H. – After earning her second consecutive Second Team All-Ivy honor this season, Dartmouth field hockey junior
Bronwyn Bird was named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Northeast Region for the first time on Tuesday. Named to the second team, Bird becomes the Big Green's first All-Region honoree since Katie Spanos was also named to the second team in back-to-back seasons in 2018-19. Bird becomes Dartmouth's second All-Region selection since 2015.
Bird was a playmaker all over the field in 2022, leading Dartmouth in assists (6) and points (12). Both marked career highs. Bird had a point in three of the final four games of the season, scoring an early fourth-quarter goal at Columbia then recording assists against Yale and Penn. Her other goals came in the season opener at No. 22 Maine, and at New Hampshire, while she had two assists in a win over Sacred Heart and an assist two days prior in a victory vs. Northeastern. Bird's first assist of the season came against Providence in the home opener. A midfielder, Bird also played a key role in the Big Green defense, which allowed only 16 goals over the seven Ivy League games – eight fewer than last season.
A highlight of Dartmouth's season was a three-game September winning streak, marking the program's longest win streak since the 2017 season. The Big Green also defeated Northeastern for the first time since 1987. Also of note, the total margin of defeat in their seven Ivy League games was nine goals, including five consecutive one-goal defeats to end the season, as the Dartmouth field hockey program showed it is getting closer and closer to breaking through.
