HANOVER, N.H. – Four Dartmouth field hockey student-athletes received postseason recognition from the Ivy League on Tuesday, highlighted by senior
Holley Cromwell and junior
Bronwyn Bird being named Second Team All-Ivy. Senior
Hatley Post and freshman
Olivia Galiotos also garnered Honorable Mention recognition. The four student-athletes honored are the most for the Big Green since they had four in 2011. It's also the first time they've had multiple players named to the first or second teams since 2016. In addition, Post was also named to the Academic All-Ivy team.
Â
Cromwell was an integral part of the Big Green offensive attack this season, finishing tied for second on the team in points (11) and second in assists (5). She was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week following a two-goal, one-assist weekend in wins over Northeastern and Sacred Heart, becoming Dartmouth's first Ivy League weekly award winner of any kind since 2017 and first Player of the Week honoree since 2013. Cromwell also scored a goal against No. 15 Harvard, and recorded assists vs. Quinnipiac, UMass Lowell and Columbia.Â
Â
Now a two-time Second Team All-Ivy honoree after also receiving the honors last season, Bird led Dartmouth in assists (6) and points (12) in 2022. Both marked career highs. Bird had a point in three of the final four games of the season, scoring an early fourth-quarter goal at Columbia then recording assists against Yale and Penn. Her other goals came in the season opener at No. 22 Maine, and at New Hampshire, while she had two assists in a win over Sacred Heart and an assist two days prior in a victory vs. Northeastern – Dartmouth's first win against the Huskies since 1987. Bird's first assist of the season came against Providence in the home opener. A midfielder, Bird also played a key role in the Big Green defense, which allowed only 16 goals over the seven Ivy League games – eight fewer than last season.
Â
Garnering Honorable Mention All-Ivy was
Hatley Post, who was an anchor for the Dartmouth defense, which allowed just 16 goals over the seven Ivy League contests. Her 46 saves in league games led the Ivy League, while her 74.2 save percentage in those contests was No. 2. She also owns a strong 2.24 GAA in league contests. Post made a career-high 19 saves at No. 8 Princeton on Oct. 8, which was tops in the nation this season among Division I goalkeepers. She was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week and earned honorable mention from the NFHCA. Post also had a sequence of saves in the third quarter that made SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays of the Day. Overall, Post tallied a 2.83 GAA and 68.8 save percentage in 15 games this season (all starts).
Â
Olivia Galiotos' impact may not show up in a box score, but don't be fooled. As a center back who started all 17 games and played nearly every minute, she anchored the back line and a defensive unit that allowed just over two goals per game in Ivy League play. Allowing just 16 total, that's eight fewer than any other year since 2015.
Additionally, one Ivy League Field Hockey student-athlete from each institution were recognized for their commitment on and off the field as members of the 2022 Ivy League Field Hockey Academic All-Ivy team. Brown's Lindsey Ross, Columbia's Elizabeth Brissette, Cornell's Bridget Mahoney, Dartmouth's Post, Harvard's Ellie Shahbo, Penn's Maya Geller, Princeton's Sam Davidson, and Yale's Laine Garber were each named to the team.
Â
The Big Green finished the 2022 season ever-so close to breaking through. Dartmouth lost its final five Ivy League games by a single goal, including one-goal defeats to No. 8 Princeton and No. 15 Harvard. The other two league defeats were by just two goals – at Cornell (3-1) and against Brown (2-0). A highlight of the season was a 3-game winning streak in September, beating Northeastern, Sacred Heart and Merrimack – good for the program's longest win streak since 2007.
