BEIJING — Dartmouth alums and students continued to put their talents on display at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing since our last update.
On Wednesday, Nina O'Brien '20 was unable to compete in the women's slalom due to fracturing her leg in the giant slalom two days prior. But she was replaced by another Dartmouth athlete, A.J. Hurt '23, who navigated the difficult course and placed 34th in a field that saw 38 of the 88 skiers fail to finish both runs.
The following day, Rosie Brennan '11 had a solid showing in the women's 10K classic, finishing 13th overall and second among the USA athletes, 13.5 seconds behind another American, Jesse Diggins, in eighth. Brennan has finished in the top 15 in each of her three races, including a fourth-place showing in the sprint free earlier this week.
Susan Dunklee '08 led Team USA in the women's 7.5K pursuit in the biathlon today, placing 27th overall. She traversed the course without any shooting penalties, one of just 13 in the field of 89 competitors to do so. At the various checkpoints, she was as high as 18th in the standings (5.0K after shooting her final targets) before settling into 27th at the finish line.
Laura Stacey '16 and Team Canada showed off their formidable strength today by blasting Sweden in the quarterfinals by a score of 11-0. The Canadians scored four goals in the first period and five more in the second to put the game well out of reach. The semifinals will take place on Feb. 14.
There is still more to come for the Dartmouth Olympians, including the women's 4x5K relay on Saturday for Brennan and Julia Kern '19; the women's 10K pursuit for Dunklee on Sunday; and the women's downhill on Monday for Tricia Mangan '19 along with the women's hockey semifinals.
