TROY, N.Y. — The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to RPI, 6-3, in ECAC Hockey action on Friday evening at the Houston Field House.
Dartmouth falls to 6-19-3, 5-14-2 while RPI improves to 15-19-3, 10-11-0.
Jack Cameron,
Steven Townley, and
Mark Gallant each scored for the Big Green.
Braiden Dorfman had two assists while
Tanner Palocsik notched his team-leading 12
th assist for the season.
Clay Stevenson finished with 32 saves.
The Big Green opened the scoring early into the opening period. After the Engineers attempted to clear the puck,
Tanner Palocsik found
Jack Cameron on the right, who ripped a shot from in front of the blue line to score his third goal of the season and to put Dartmouth up 1-0.
RPI responded just over a minute later to tie things up at 1-1. Former Dartmouth skater Shane Seller took a shot towards goal that was redirected by Jake Gagnon into the back of the net.
Dartmouth took the lead back a few minutes later. After forcing a turnover in our defensive zone,
Steven Townley and
Braiden Dorfman played a quick give-and-go to set Townley up to fire one from the right side for his third goal of the season to put the Big Green back on top, 2-1.
Clay Stevenson finished the first period with nine saves while the defense blocked six shots.
Dartmouth added to their lead shortly into the second period when
Mark Gallant scored his team-leading 10
th goal of the season and the team's 13
th power play goal. The puck was played out to
Ian Pierce, who fired a shot towards goal, but Gallant got a tip on it to send it past RPI goaltender Jack Watson to put the Big Green up 3-1.
The Engineers wasted no time cutting into the deficit, scoring less than a minute later. Ture Linden was able to get his stick on a loose puck around the net to make it a 3-2 game.
It was clinical finishing from the Big Green, scoring three goals on just nine shots on goal through the first two periods.
RPI tied it at 3-3 midway through the third period on the power play. With five seconds left on the 5v4 advantage, the Engineers pounced on a rebound after a save in front of goal from Stevenson.
The Engineers took their first lead of night with just under nine minutes remaining when Linden scored his second of the night and the team's second power play goal.
The Big Green pulled Stevenson with three minutes left in search of the equalizer. RPI sealed it with two empty net goals in the final two minutes.
Dartmouth closes out the regular season tomorrow night at Union. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
