CONWAY, S.C. — Dartmouth (2-2) split their games in the second day of action at the Chanticleer Showdown on Saturday. They defeated Monmouth (1-8) by a score of 3-1 to start the day and then fell to Central Michigan (4-4) by a score of 2-0 to close out the day.
Monmouth
Senior
Brooke Plonka pitched a gem in the 3-1 victory. She threw a complete game, gave up only one earned run and had eight strikeouts. Junior
Kate Farren went 2-for-3 at the plate and had two RBI to lead team.
Dartmouth took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Freshman
Jenna Brown flied out to center field and sent a run home. Monmouth answered in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1.
The game was scoreless through the next four innings and had to go to extras with the teams tied 1-1. Farren stepped up in the top of the eighth and singled to center field, sending the winning runs home to take a 3-1 advantage. Plonka closed out the game in the bottom of the inning to earn her second win of the season.
Central Michigan
Senior
Madie Augusto got the start in the circle and pitched three innings. Freshman
Rachel McCarroll pitched the final three innings and allowed only one hit and struck out four batters in her first career appearance.
The Big Green fell behind early in the game. The Chippewas took an early lead in the second inning and then added one more run in the third to extend their lead to 2-0. The Big Green were unable to cut into the deficit after a stellar performance from Central Michigan Grace Lehto who only gave up two hits.
Dartmouth closes out the Chanticleer Showdown tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. They take on Maryland in their final game.
