PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Allie Harland had a career-high 14 points in the 70-56 loss to Brown at Pizzitola Sports Center on Tuesday.
Harland went 5-7 (.714) in field goals and 4-5 (.800) in treys, while
Doreen Ariik had her second double-double in a row, ending up with 10 points and a career-best 12 rebounds.
Dartmouth (2-19, 1-8) at Brown (6-15, 1-8)
Dartmouth got the first points on the board, but after two ties, the Bears scored five straight to create some distance less than five minutes in. The Green turned it around, going on a 6-0 run highlighted by
Jimena Abejon's pull-up 3-pointer to get ahead by one. After keeping Brown off the board for three minutes, it was a two-point game after the opening quarter (12-10).
Treys by Harland and
Mekkena Boyd helped Dartmouth's cause, but a 10-6 advantage by the home team after the first five minutes allowed it to take more control. The Green were kept off the board for three minutes before Harland added two points to keep within reach, but the Bears scored nine in a row over a two-minute span.
Grace Niekelski had her first jumper of the game with 52 seconds remaining, while Brown got the last word with a 3-pointer (36-20).
The teams went shot for shot in the first three minutes of the third quarter, scoring seven points apiece, before four in a row gave the visitors a boost. Brown answered with back-to-back treys and a trio of layups for 12 points. An
Emma Koch swisher with 2:05 remaining ended a small drought, while Harland's second 3-pointer of the quarter and a bucket by Abejon got the Green back within 17 points (55-38).
Having kept the Bears quiet since the final 1:48 of the third, Niekelski and Ariik added a bucket each before Brown ended the run almost two minutes in. With time running out, a fourth 3-pointer for Harland and two free throws from Ariik helped Dartmouth stay in the game. Even though the Big Green led the fourth, Brown managed to hold on (70-56). Dartmouth again turned in a stellar performance on the boards, outrebounding the Bears 43-37, while collecting 20 offensive rebounds.
Next up is the Green's penultimate home tilt of the year. They will face the Tigers at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. After that, Dartmouth is on the road for three straight.
