HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team (3-18, 0-2) fell to Yale (5-12, 3-2) in both contests on Saturday in their home and Ivy League openers at Dartmouth Softball Park. The Bulldogs took game one, 8-7, before winning game two, 6-2.

Game 1: Yale 8, Dartmouth 7

Kate Farren led with two home runs for the Big Green.
Leila Hennessy also hit a homer while
Jenna Brown went 3-for-3 at the plate with one double and two runs. Farren also had two RBI and two runs. Dartmouth finished with a season-high 10 hits.
Brooke Plonka fanned seven batters in 5.2 innings. Hennessy also threw out two runners.

Maddie Latta, Carmen Muscolina, and Grayson Vives each homered for the Bulldogs.

In the first game at Dartmouth Softball Park since the end of the 2019 season, the Big Green got on the board first when Farren launched a solo shot to left field in the second inning. The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the next half-inning as a couple passed balls sent two runners followed by a two-run single to put Yale up 4-1.

The lead did not last long as Dartmouth answered right away when
Maddie Katona hit a two-run single and advanced to the third. In the next at-bat,
Alaana Panu hit a sacrifice fly to left field to send Katona across the plate to tie the game, 4-4.

It was like the home run derby in the sixth inning as there were a total of five homers. Yale hit three in the top half of the inning, solo shots from Latta and Grayson Vives, and a two-run homer from Muscolina. The Big Green had an immediate response as Hennessy and Farren both homered to start off the inning.
Kira La Scola hit a sacrifice bunt later in the inning, sending Brown home to cut the deficit to one. Nicole Conway pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to close things out.

Game 2: Yale 6, Dartmouth 2

Izzy Kam,
Billie McFadyen,
Maria Angelino, and
Jenna Brown each had a hit for the Big Green. Brown finished with two RBI.

Maddie Latta, Grayson Vives, and Katie Donahey each homered for the Bulldogs. Sam Goodcase went 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles.

Goodcase opened the scoring for Yale when she scored in the first inning on a passed ball to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. They added to their lead in the fourth when an RBI double from Latta sent Donahey across the plate.

The Big Green tied the game in the next half-inning. Kam hit a single up the middle that was misplayed by Yale's Donahey.
Maria Angelino scored on the play and the error allowed Kam to make her way home to tie the game, 2-2.

The Bulldogs added three more home runs, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, to put the game out of reach and sweep the doubleheader.

Dartmouth is back in action tomorrow for game three against Yale at Dartmouth Softball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the game be streamed on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
