THIS WEEK
Softball will host Holy Cross for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, playing at 3 and approximately 5 p.m. at the Dartmouth Softball Park.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth rebounded from a pair of losses on Saturday to defeat Yale decisively, 10-3, ending the series with the Bulldogs on a high note.
Â
Kate Farren led the Big Green by going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, while
Maddie Katona also scored three times.
Leila Hennessy also had a pair of hits while scoring twice and provided one of the team's two home runs.
Â
Brooke Plonka pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Â
Yale got things started in the top of the first and held on to that 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second when
Mary Beth Cahalan cracked a two-run shot for her first career home run. The visitors tied it up in the next inning, but a three-run third for Dartmouth made it a 5-2 game. Another Yale homer in the fourth got the visitors back within three, but the Green pulled away when
Billie McFadyen delivered a two-run single.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Hennessy led off with her four-bagger, and Katona and Farren later crossed the plate to finish the scoring.
Â
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross heads into Wednesday's games with an overall record of 7-17. Over the weekend, they kicked off Patriot League action against Bucknell, winning a pair of one-run decisions while dropping the third, 8-0. Prior to the first win against the Bison on March 26, the Crusaders had been on a six-game losing streak dating back almost two weeks.
Â
The two teams have zero opponents in common, minus Brown (a team Holy Cross lost to, 16-2 and 2-0, and one the Big Green will not meet until April 9).
Â
Jessica Mott is the team's top hitter with a .307 average, a team-leading eight runs and two long balls while also providing six doubles. Kelly Nelson has gone 5-10 on the mound with a 2.60 ERA over 91.2 innings, striking out 101 and walking 23.
Â
OVERALL RECORD VS. HOLY CROSS
The Big Green are 2-4 against the Crusaders in a series dating back 27 years, playing a pair of games in 1995, two more in 1996 and a doubleheader in 2002, the last time the teams met.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRUSADERS
On April 30, 2002, Dartmouth split against Holy Cross, narrowly dropping the first game, 7-6, before rebounding to win the second, 7-1. The Green went 27-18 that year.
