KNOXVILLE, TENN. — Dartmouth (2-5) lost twice in their first day of action at the Tennessee Invitational on Friday. They fell to South Alabama (5-11) by a score of 1-0 in eight innings and were defeated by No. 17 Tennessee by a score of 8-0.

Brooke Plonka pitched a shutout threw the first seven innings. She recorded five strikeouts and gave up zero earned runs in 8.1 innings played.

Both sides battled through the first seven innings with neither side scoring a run in regulation. South Alabama finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth. A sac fly sent a runner home to give the Jaguars the 1-0 win over the Big Green.

Mary Beth Cahalan led Dartmouth at the plate going 1-for-2 in the 8-0 loss to the Volunteers and freshman
Rachel McCarroll struck out three batters in a relief effort to close out the game in the circle.

The Big Green fell behind early when Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Volunteers followed that up with a three-run homer in the second and two more home runs in the third to take a 6-0 advantage. They added two more runs in the fifth to make the score 8-0.
