KNOXVILLE, TENN. — Dartmouth (2-7) fell to Virginia (11-8) and No. 17 Tennessee (14-6) in their second day of action at the Tennessee Invitational on Saturday. They lost to the Cavaliers by a score of 3-0 and the Volunteers 8-1.

Brooke Plonka and freshman
Rachel McCarroll gave up only four hits in a combined effort from the mound. McCarroll struck out four batters in five innings pitched and Plonka gave up only one earned run but was credited with the loss.

The Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when a sac fly sent a runner home. The game was scoreless through the next five innings until Virginia hit a two-run homer in the seventh to extend the lead to 3-0 before the end of the game.

Izzy Kam went 2-for-3 from the plate and was the highlight of the Big Green offense in the game.

Megan Hagge saw the first action of her career in the loss. She gave up zero earned runs and struck out two batters in three and two-thirds innings against the Volunteers.

Tennessee took a 2-0 lead in the second to start the game. They followed that up with a three run third innings and the Big Green trailed by a score of 5-0. Dartmouth broke through in the fourth when senior
Billie McFadyen scored. The Volunteers added one more run in the bottom of the fourth and in the fifth to make the score 7-1

Leila Hennessy registered the only hits on the day for the Big Green. They both went 1-for-3 from the plate.

Dartmouth returns to action tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. They the loser of the matchup between Virginia and South Alabama.
