Dartmouth Sailing won the NEISA Women’s Championship over the weekend. Additionally, the Big Green competed for the Thompson Trophy.

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team captured their first New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Women's Championship since 2000. Competing on Harpswell Sound, hosted by Bowdoin College, the Big Green won with a total score of 132, earning an automatic qualification to the Women's Fleet Race National Championship in May.

With the win, Dartmouth picked up several individual accolades. Carlota Hopkins Guerra was named NEISA Women's Crew of the Year, Maddie Hawkins earned Women's Skipper of the Year, and Gray Hemans was named Second-Team All-NEISA.

Additionally, the Big Green competed for the Thompson Trophy, co-hosted by Connecticut College and United States Coast Guard Academy.

The Big Green captured their first NEISA Women's Championship since 2000, taking the win with a total score of 132, edging out fellow Ivy League member Yale by 23.

Competing in the A Division for Dartmouth was Maddie Hawkins, Aisling Sullivan, and Carlota Hopkins Guerra, and finished with 39 points, the top score in the division. In the B Division, the Big Green sent out the combination of Gray Hemans, Sarah Young, Eloise Burn, Caroline Oyster, and Elise Donovan, finishing with a score of 93.

On Saturday, the team was met with a consistent southerly breeze with a wide range of velocities, 12-17 in the morning and dying to 4-8 in the afternoon. On Sunday, the sun came out and the skies were beautiful, but the NW/W direction of the wind was much shiftier, forcing the Big Green to balance the current and shifts all day. Dartmouth came away with the victory and earned an auto-bid to the Women's Fleet Race National Championship in May.

Thompson Trophy

Dartmouth took sixth in the Thompson Trophy over the weekend. Competing down in Connecticut for the Big Green were Ryan Goldstein, Maddie Sharp, Nick Hurley, Drew Clutterbuck, Eliza Crocker, Christopher Long, Griffin Lapham, Will Michels, Reese Bragg, and Boyd Bragg.

Facing wind ranging from 5 to 18 knots on the Thames River, Dartmouth completed 10 races in each division on Saturday before finishing another five per division on Sunday.

Dartmouth is back on the water next weekend as they compete for the Women's ICSA Team Championship at Brown with a chance at claiming the inaugural Ivy League women's sailing championship. The Big Green will also compete at the BDC Fleet Race at MIT and Harvard.
