KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The trio of graduate
Jason Liu, senior
Mark Turner and junior
Eli Thrasher all shot even par in the third and final round of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate as Dartmouth finished 13th overall at 14-over par (866). Liu had the best showing over the two days, tying for eighth with a 5-under 208 on the individual leaderboard.
Co-host Charlotte, ranked 27th in the nation, just edged out 21st-ranked Ole Miss by a single stroke for the team trophy with a 24-under 828. Four other teams also finished the tournament under par on the 7,099-yard, par-71 course at The Club at Irish Creek.
As a team, Dartmouth had a dozen birdies, led by Liu with four to go with 11 pars to help him reach even par on the day. His total of 70-67-71—208 (-5) left him six strokes behind the medalist, Jackson Suber of Ole Miss, who twice carded a 5-under 66 in a round this weekend. His 66 today allowed him to surpass Charlotte's Dongjin Park — who shot even par like Liu — at the top of the leaderboard.
Turner played a fairly calm round, dropping par on 14 holes to go with two birdies. He concluded the three rounds at 3-over par (216), which left him tied for 46th in the 92-player field.
Thrasher, meanwhile, came away with his best round of the weekend with his 71 today. Starting on 10, he played the back nine at 1-over par with one birdie, then was 2-over when he sank an eagle on the 383-yard, par-4 fourth hole. A birdie on six and bogey on his final hole kept him at even par.
The other scorer on the day for the Big Green was senior
Charles Petrie, just one stroke worse than his trio of teammates at 1-over (72). He sank three birdies, including two on his last six holes while parring the other four to close out strong.
Dartmouth will next play at the Princeton Invitational next weekend.
