PRINCETON, N.J. — Senior
Mark Turner shot even par over the first two rounds of the Princeton Invitational, helping the Dartmouth men's golf team finish the day in seventh place in the 15-team field with a 10-over 578. The host Tigers took advantage of their home course as their B team sits atop the leaderboard at 9-under par (559), one stroke ahead of their teammates while Seton Hall is the other team below par at 2-under in third place.
Turner was 3-over par through the first 11 holes with eight pars and three bogeys. But after making par the next three holes, he sank six birdies over his last 21 holes with 12 more pars while carding a 2-under 69 on his second tour of the 6,444-yard, par-71 Springdale Golf Course to get back to even par for the two rounds, leaving him in a tie for 12th in the 78-player field.
The Big Green best round over the first 18 holes belonged to graduate
Jason Liu at even par with 14 pars and two birdies. Turner's older brother, fifth-year senior
James Turner, was 1-over on his first tour with three birdies and 11 pars, and senior
Charles Petrie was 2-over with two birdies and 12 pars.
While the younger Turner was shooting his 2-under par in the second round, Petrie was making par with four more birdies to finish the day at 2-over par, tied for 28th.
James Turner added two more birdies and shot a 3-over 74 to tie for 38th at 4-over, along with Liu who completed the second round with a 4-over 75. Sophomore
Alex Gu matched Liu's second-round total with three birdies of his own, closing the day at 10-over in a tie for 66th.
Princeton's William Huang will enter the final round at 7-under par (135), good for a four-stroke lead over three of his teammates.
Dartmouth will tee off the third round on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
