Princeton wins fifth straight Ivy title

PENNSAUKEN, NEW JERSEY — Dartmouth women's crew took four boats to the Ivy championship race, claiming a fourth-place finish in the grand final for the 3V boat coxed by Sonya Danchak. With victories in two petite finals as well, the Big Green finished seventh overall with 19 points while Princeton won its fifth straight title.

There was a three-way tie in the total team points, but the Tigers earned the NCAA Automatic Qualifier trophy after finishing with the most points from their V8, 2V8 and V4 boats. Brown and Yale shared the lead followed by Penn (49), Harvard (41), Columbia (33), Dartmouth and Cornell (16).

There were no trials in the morning for the 3V8 boats, rather they were moved to a seven-boat final in the afternoon. Dartmouth crossed the finish in 6:46.216 to place fourth while Yale won handily in a time of 6:29.601 with Brown (6:33.268) and Princeton (6:36.108) placing second and third, respectively. Rounding out the field were Columbia (6:48.166), Penn (6:55.541) and Harvard (7:08.346).

After the varsity four and varsity eight came in fourth in their heats in the morning, they competed in the petite final in the afternoon races. Both teams downed the Big Red as the V4 won by just over two seconds, 7:31.975 to 7:34.778, while the V8 led the race wire-to-wire, clocking in more than four seconds ahead of Cornell in (6:42.944 to 6:47.047).

Head Coach Nancy LaRoque was very pleased with the day's outcome. "It was a solid day of racing and we have a lot to build on heading into next year. A huge thank you to our seniors for their leadership on and off the water."

At the end of the day, two Big Green rowers received spots on the All-Ivy teams. Senior Carter Nelson (London, England), rowing in the seven seat for the V8, earned a first-team nod, while junior Justine McGuire (Mont-Tremblant, Quebec), stroke of the V8, was placed on the second team.
