HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's rowing is set to compete on one of the sport's largest stages as the Big Green travels to England for the renowned Henley Royal Regatta.
Dartmouth's varsity eight will compete in the Bridge Challenge Plate, an intermediate event that features some of the world's top competitors, including Olympians and national team athletes. The Big Green are among six crews that will race in Saturday morning's qualifying round, battling for one of four remaining spots in the regatta's main draw.
Six crews have already earned pre-qualified berths in the event. Should Dartmouth advance through qualifying, the Big Green will begin racing in the head-to-head knockout rounds beginning Thursday.
In addition to the varsity eight, Dartmouth will also have representation in the Hambleden Pairs Challenge Cup. The Big Green pair of Lis Madigan and Maude Smith Montross will attempt to qualify on Friday for the elite pairs event. If the duo does not advance through qualifying, they will race in the Spare Pairs event next Tuesday.
"Henley is unlike any other race in the world and the opportunity to represent Dartmouth Women's Rowing here is really special," said John Graves, the Elizabeth C. McNabb Head Coach of Women's Rowing. "These crews have worked really hard to maximize this opportunity and I am excited to see them show what they can do on one of the biggest stages in our sport."
