WORCESTER, Mass. — On what was arguably the nicest spring day so far this season, the Big Green women's crew headed down to Lake Quinsigamond to compete in the 47th Eastern Sprints. The fifth-ranked Bears from Brown won five Grand Final races to win the team title while Dartmouth claimed eighth in the 16-team field.
Dartmouth sent five boats to the race with the top results being achieved by the second and third varsity boats. Both boats finished second in their heats and advanced to the Grand Final.
The second varsity boat, coxed by
Aarushi Jain, had a fifth-place finish in a race won by Brown (6:46.667). Rounding out the finishers were Rutgers in second, Cornell (7:02.497) and BU (7:03.580)Â third and fourth, respectively, with Dartmouth (7:11.855) edging out Columbia (7:16.989).
In the third varsity race Brown, once again, ran away from the pack, finishing first in 6:50.393. Columbia (7:05.058)Â moved up to fourth followed by Drexel (7:07.131 )and Dartmouth (7:07.841) in sixth.Â
The V4B finished fourth in its heat and advanced to the Petite Final where it came in first with a time of 7:30.325, followed by Boston College (7:38.508), Georgetown (7:41.985), Boston University (7:42.615), Rhode Island (7:47.388) and Temple (8:13.668). The V4A boat (7:54.823)Â came in second to Drexel (7:52.993) in the Petite Final.
The varsity 8 were fourth in their heat, advancing to the Petite Final where they also finished fourth (7:04.060). Boston University won the Petite Final in a time of 6:56.377 followed by Columbia (6:59.437) and Georgetown (7:00.310).Â
"This was Dartmouth's first Women's Sprints regatta since 2019," noted Head Coach
Nancy LaRocque. "The weather was spectacular, and we couldn't have asked for better rowing conditions. From a performance perspective, we feel like it was a solid representation of our continued growth as a team in all boat classes. We saw gutsy performances by all the Big Green crews, and we remain steadfast in the message that our entire team contributes to the success of all Dartmouth boats.
"The Ivy League is stronger than ever in women's rowing with four teams being ranked in the top 10 in the country. We are looking forward to wrapping up our regular season at the Ivy League Championships on May 15th."
