Winstanley scores for the third straight game

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team extended their winning streak to three games with a 2-1 victory against Vermont on Wednesday evening at Virtue Field.

Allie Winstanley scored both goals for the Big Green while Mary Lundregan had one assist. Charlotte Cyr made seven saves in net.

Sydney Remington tallied the lone goal for the Catamounts with Nicky Constant picking up the assist.

Dartmouth opened the scoring midway through the first half. Aspen Anderson had possession in the middle of the attacking third and played the ball out to the left wing to Lundregan making a run down the sideline. Lundregan crossed the ball into the box towards the penalty spot and it found its way to Winstanley, who controlled the ball around the Vermont defender and placed it into the back of the net.

The Big Green extended the lead early into the second half. Winstanley drew a foul from roughly 25 yards out, earning a free kick in dangerous territory for Dartmouth. Winstanley took the ensuing free kick and struck a low-driven shot past the wall and into the back of the net for her second goal of the match.

Dartmouth almost added to the lead in the 64^th minute when Hailey Rorick launched a shot from 30 yards out, but it rattled off the crossbar.

Vermont cut into the deficit in the 85^th minute through an effort from Remington. Constant played a short pass to Remington who stuck it first time to the top left corner from 20 yards out.

Dartmouth will stay on the road for a nonconference matchup with UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on America East TV.

Notes: Winstanley has now scored five goals in the last three games, including two straight two-goal performances. She is the first Dartmouth player to score two goals in two straight games since Lucielle Kozlov completed the feat in the four straight games during the 2015 season.
