PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. — Sophomore
Justin Lee led the Big Green during the first day of the Cornell/Temple Invitational, posting the second-best score in a single round of his career. His score of 71 (+1) led the Big Green through the first round as Dartmouth ended Saturday ranked eighth in a field of 15 with a 292 (+12).
Rhode Island finished day one with a five-stroke lead as the Rams recorded a score of 274 (-6) at the 1912 Club. Host team Temple was the only other program to break par in the first round with a score of 279 (-1). Ivy League teams Penn and Columbia finished the day with scores of 4-over par and 6-over par, respectively.
Lee, tied for 15th in a field of 84, had a consistent round for the Big Green on Saturday. The Los Angeles native led the field in par-3 scoring at 2-under par and recorded two birdies and 13 pars on the day.
Mark Turner finished one stroke behind Lee and ended the first day of the season with a score of 72 (+2). He was one of seven players to record an eagle, which he did on the par-5 6th, and consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th helped him finish the day tied for 21st in the field.
Alex Gu ended his afternoon with three birdies and a score of 74 (+4), tying for 38th in the field. He led the field par-5 scoring at 3-under par during round one.
Charles Petrie and
Eli Kimche closed out Dartmouth's team effort, as both ended round one 5-over par and tied for 51st. Petrie recorded 12 pars while Kimche recorded birdie on a par-4 11th.
Eli Thrasher was one of nine players participating in the Cornell/Temple Invitational as an individual player. The senior closed out his day at 9-over par.
